To help ambitious plans for the UK's port terminal and logistics operator Portico Holdings, Simon Clarke has joined the organisation as business development manager.

Following more than eight years with Boulda Towage (formally SMS), Simon understands the south coast region from running a dedicated towage service at Portsmouth International Port. He also has extensive industry knowledge from working at a marine marketing agency, representing overseas principals to UK ship owners and charterers, assisting in client's dry docking programs, and providing a multitude of other marine services from propeller repairs to riding squads, globally.

Simon Clarke, Portico shipping business development manager, said: "Having worked in many ports in my previous roles it is exciting to be working with a port, especially one I know well and also one that is developing commercially. This is in addition to aiming for net carbon neutral by 2030, ambitious goals.

"With the multi-million investment that is currently underway, combined with the growth trajectory of the three Portico divisions, there is no better time to join."

Steve Williams, Portico's managing director, said: "We're delighted Simon has joined the team as we head into an exciting period of transformation for the company.

"With development of our site underway we're in a position to provide improvements for our current customers and also attract growth in other sectors as we create more space. We're looking forward to Simon becoming involved in the business and to help all of our current and prospective clients."

Portico has seen the organisation transform into three companies focusing on the following sectors:

  • Portico Shipping serves customers across sea-based cargo, short-sea, layover, project cargo, and heavy lift
  • Portico Logistics provides overland transport, and freight forwarding in the UK, Europe, and the rest of the world
  • Portico Port Services provides people to the cruise and ferry industries.

The site is currently undergoing a £7m capital investment, including £4.8m of SEED funding from the Solent Freeport. This will enable quayside space, increasing cargo handling and the ability to attract new business.
